Interview with Denys
To what do you attribute your success – how is your business unique?
“I believe that what is worth doing, is worth doing well. Selling for more than two years, I always try to make the best quality photos as far as my skills allow me. I think of my photos as art—while post-processing, I try to convey the feelings that I experienced during the shooting.”
At what moment did you decide to pursue your business?
“Initially, photography was my hobby, but when the war in my country began, I lost my job and decided to try selling photos, and it has led me to success. Now, I’m very glad that hobby turned into my work.”
What do you love about your work and why?
“I love my work because I depend only on myself. I decide when I have a day off or leave, I make up my own work schedule. Since I really like the landscape photography, I also try to travel a lot. Traveling is always very interesting and exciting for me!”
Is where you live a good place to be a creative professional and why?
“I moved to Kiev, Ukraine recently and I still don’t know how comfortable it is for me here. Regardless, whatever city you live, you always need to travel and go to other places for good photos.”
What or who inspires you and why?
“Nature inspires me. Seeing a beautiful landscape, I always want to take pictures of it. Also, many famous modern landscape photographers inspire me. When I see their photos I want to learn how to photograph as well as they do.”
What are some of the biggest lessons that have impacted your work?
“I can’t single out one big lesson, but I am constantly learning and watching master classes of various good photographers. I also try to communicate and share experiences with other photographers.”
What is your advice to other authors regarding how to create a successful portfolio?
“Don’t chase quantity, but quality, and always study, attend master classes or watch them online.”
How do you balance work and family life?
“I always try to find time for my family. Work is a good thing, but you should never turn your life into a routine.”
What are your plans for the future?
“In the near future, I plan to travel a lot and visit countries that I have wanted to get to for a long time—watch this space!”
