Meet Our Authors: agungugang

Animation whizz, agungugang, is a talented motion graphics creator who brings vibrant video templates to Envato Elements.

We caught up with agungugang to find out about their journey with Envato, their inspirations, and their tips and tricks for creating on-trend animations.

What’s your background and how did you get into video template/animation creation?

Initially, I worked as a junior animator in an animation studio, where I worked on animated films and several animation pilot projects. I was working from home, so I also tried a variety of online freelance platforms and got a few clients asking for explainer videos and motion graphics which required me to learn more about After Effects and video editing.

What do you love about working in video and why?

I love drawing—when I draw something or a character and then I see it move, I love it even more. I also like watching and making short animated films.

What/who inspires your work?

I used to love seeing the MTV bumpers and openers in the 90s and early 2000s. Now I like to see designs or images that combine 2D elements with real-life photos or videos.

How do you create high-quality video templates? What expert tips/tricks/hacks can you share?

I am still learning and trying to make high-quality work. There is lots to see and learn from other video template designs about animations, transitions, effects, layouts, and other elements. I’m currently trying to incorporate traditional 2D animation into After Effects templates, such as intros, bumpers, transitions, etc. I think about how my projects can be different from the others and have their own character.

Where’s the most exciting place you’ve seen your items/footage used?

I was very happy when the transition effect that I made was used in several children’s videos on the Blippi YouTube channel because my child likes to watch that channel.

How has Envato helped your journey as a creator?

I used to work under tight deadlines but Envato has been very helpful in providing space for me to work more calmly.

What makes you most excited as a creator online?

I am very grateful to be able to work online. I can work professionally but also have no difficulties when it comes to taking care of family matters.

Are there any video trends that you are loving at the moment?

I still like to see motion graphics that combine real-life videos with 2D animation elements.

What main programs, tools, or techniques do you use to create your work?

The tools that I often use are After Effects and Toonboom. I also use a Wacom pen tablet to draw.

What are your top tips for video creators just starting out?

My advice for creators who are just starting out is to be patient and always learn. When your item is rejected it is a reminder for us to always learn. Learn the designs from those that have been successful and then try to make them with your own characteristics.

Don’t make something that already exists better, but make something new that is different.

How do you come up with new and exciting animation ideas?

I get inspiration for new designs on Pinterest and Behance then I try to make my own version using animation. I also watch animation videos on Vimeo as there are lots of animations, and motion graphics from young artists that are fresh and wild. I like to play video games, sometimes I find video effects there which can then become ideas for inserting into video templates.
