Explore the world of FortySixandTwo.

My name is Kerry and I currently live off grid on a mountain top in Tasmania, Australia. I’m previously from Melbourne Victoria, grew up in the bush outside of Canberra ACT and spend half the year in the North American Summer.

What do you love about your work?

I love creation

Seeing an idea and nourishing it into fullness. Expressing parts of myself and putting it out to the world. Creating beautiful, high quality products.

Infusing magic and knowledge into everything that I do. Inspiring others and being inspired by others.

To what do you attribute your success – how is your business unique?

I bring high quality and attention to detail, as well as a unique ability to see the big picture of how everything fits together into products that are small cost and accessible for all types of businesses and individuals.

I love a good system – and templates are a great avenue for that! I am also meticulous with file structures and layouts, everything has a reason for being there, everything has a place.

I bring high end intentional design that usually costs thousands to the people. With the entrepreneurial movement, I noticed with a lot of my clients who were starting up businesses, high end design wasn’t that accessible with a start up budget, so I take pleasure in filling that gap. I also LOVE creating, running with an idea that is all mine and seeing it through to fruition! It’s actualisation at it’s finest. It is an uninterrupted flow of energy, especially when there are no clients making changes.

At what point did you decide to pursue your business?

I was a designer for over 15 years working with clients and businesses who have a positive impact, on high end branding packages and design solutions. I could always see the end product in the initial meeting – I called it ‘visual precognition’.

I found time and time again the projects didn’t reach their full potential. I think I was being guided to put my creative energy into my own work really! After a while, I decided to change up how I worked. I played around with a template, uploaded it and it took off immediately! I also really loved the freedom of creation and the idea that my work reached MANY, not just one client. So satisfying.

Creating products for digital marketplaces has freed up my time and allowed my creativity to unfold freely. I can focus on my passions (studying astrology, herbalism, alchemy) and my own projects, which include Moon Phases Calendars, Astrology Decks, Diaries and a whole bunch of other projects in the works. As well as another website – an information portal for women’s cyclic health called Love Your Cycle.

What is the most challenging thing about your work?

Sitting in front of a computer. It requires a lot of life / health / movement balance. Sometimes working alone can be challenging and selling things digitally, you don’t get a huge amount of feedback or engagement!! So it’s really nice to receive messages every now and then from happy customers.

What or who inspires you and why?

Nature is my biggest inspiration and teacher. I learn something new everyday. Also, my partner who is so supportive and intelligent humans who push boundaries, do things a differently, think outside of the box, earth conscious.

Lastly, the stars. As ‘woo woo’ as that sounds, it’s an amazing intelligent system that gives us our own roadmaps to ourselves.

“The entire universe is a great theatre of mirrors.”

Alice Bailey

What are some of the biggest lessons that have impacted your work?

Following my own creativity and authenticity. The more something is coming through me, uninterrupted (like I am a vehicle channelling some divine idea!) the more it is received in the world and can serve a purpose.

I was never designed to be a graphic designer that worked under client direction. I am a visionary!

What is your advice to other authors on how to create a successful portfolio?

Put the effort in, go the extra distance, be true to yourself and know what people want. Take a look around, find the gaps, fill them, and most importantly – be original!

“Problems cannot be solved by the same mindset that created them”.

Albert Einstein

Apart from yourself, who is your favorite author?

Moscovita – love their work, we have a similar aesthetic.

What tools and resources do you use (online and offline)?

I sit around daydreaming a lot. I read a lot. I look at how the world works (and doesn’t work) but when it comes to designing and capturing what I see, a pencil and paper for some rough sketches, then my favourites are Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.

InDesign is probably my most used as its quick to get things onto a page and then I refine from there. But I have to say my all time favourite thing to do is putting things into mockups to see what they look like as an end product, sometimes I start with this because it makes it more real from the beginning.

How do you balance work and family life?

Well, that is a lesson we will all be learning for life isn’t it? If anyone can successfully do this ALL the time, I’m sure they are on their way to enlightenment! Short answer is, it comes and goes in ebbs and flows, but one of my secrets is working inline with my menstrual cycle, there are creative phases, down time, working hard times, play times and day dreaming times.

I also work with the astrological influences of when the best times are for dreaming and scheming ideas, actualising and working hard and releasing products, as well as the right kind of products.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

Astrology, natural therapies, herbalism, alchemy and all the esoteric stuff. My purpose is to help humans evolve and give them a road map to themselves. I love self mastery. 46&2 (my business name) is a metaphor for evolution.

I am obsessed with cycles. Cycles of time, moon cycles, menstrual cycles, planetary cycles, natural cycles – and nature. And all of the big life questions like – why are we here? Where are we going? What’s after death? You know, those types of things.

What are your plans for the future?

My plan is to keep on creating high quality templates, I love playing with trends and infusing my products with my own interests. On top of that I have a few products I’m working on, all in the realm of self mastery layering in astrology that is accessible for anyone.

I’m in the midst of a bit of a career change, but I will always be creating and putting work out there for others, but the most exciting thing is, I’m also working on my own projects and products available very soon!

To my fellow community…

Every one of us is so unique, we all have something unique to offer to the world that no one else can bring to the table. We just have to get in touch with that, which requires an inner journey of finding and understanding ourselves (this is a lifelong journey!) Then there is no such thing as competition, doing things just for money, slaving away for others or comparing ourselves to others, which kills our unique creativity.

Don’t be afraid to be you, to create how you want to create and to wear your soul on the outside. Don’t be sold into the way things are, always ask questions and be authentic, which guarantees originality and a feeling of freedom that no one can ever sell you.
